Dentures Are A Replacement For Natural Teeth
For patients who have missing or failing teeth, dentures may be the best replacement option. Rather than waiting for teeth to gradually get replaced one by one, consider scheduling consultation for dentures. We’ll discuss your treatment options and answer any questions you have about the process. Call us today at (415) 499-7700.
How does it work?
Dentures typically take a few appointments to complete. After the consultation, treatment will be scheduled to remove any remaining nonviable teeth. Then we’ll make an impression to create the denture to the exact specification of your mouth.
You may choose to have a temporary denture during this period, which allows you to get used to the device, as well as notice any slight adjustments that may be necessary for the permanent denture.
At the final appointment, you pick up your newly created teeth, and they’re ready to be used regularly for biting and chewing.
How do dentures stay in place?
Well-fitting complete dentures stay in place all on their own. They create a tight seal with gums and soft tissue.
For enhanced stability, there are a couple of different options available for keeping dentures in place. Commercially available bonding gels or strips are the most common approaches. You place the gel or bonding strip atop the denture, then press it into place inside your mouth. Many people find success with this method, but if your old denture always slips or falls out of place, it may be time for a new denture or a denture reline.
If you’re interested in securely fastening your dentures, then call us to ask about dental implants. Ultra-strong titanium implants are used to anchor teeth into place. They can attach just a single tooth, multiple teeth (such as a fixed partial), or an entire denture.
